First Day of Work Today was my first day back at work after a long six weeks of holiday with the children. This morning I was feeling kind of uneasy as if it were my first time ever at the doors. I almost called the girls at the office to pray for me, but I prayed and trusted the Lord would help me as usual, so there was nothing to fear.

Before leaving our home, I was impressed to browse through Volume 3 of the Family Medical Care, and my attention was directed to the article by J Wayne McFarland on page 90, on “How to Stop Smoking.” I thought it was a good article and particularly liked point number 10.

I went to work and the first lady I visited had a little note at the door that said, “Please don't smoke here. It is offensive to our nose and to the Lord's.” Interesting eh!

While canvassing her, I remembered the little note and congratulated her for not smoking and not allowing people to smoke in her house. She responded: “That is mainly for myself, because I smoke but I am desperately trying to quit. I was OK for four days but today is a bad day. I just had a cigarette not long ago and I'm finding it very frustrating. I've even stopped drinking coffee because I realised that it was giving me the shakes and more desire to smoke.”

Then I knew the Lord wanted me there, and I stopped my canvass and told her, “Julie, this is my first day back at work after the school holidays. I asked the Lord to guide me and show me where He wanted me today. This is a big town and I can work in any area and I know He has sent me to see you. This morning I read and I actually read it to her:

“The most important part of this whole program is to ask God to help you. If you have never prayed before, this is the time to learn. All you need to do is follow the Lord's advice: 'Ask, and it will be given to you.' Heaven will help any man or woman who is really serious about stopping the use of tobacco. Place your will on the side of God, and you are invincible. You can never fail with God as your partner.”

Julie was visibly impressed and said, “it is incredible. The Lord must have sent you. How much is the book?”

She then ordered the Family Medical Care and Today, Tomorrow and You, and requested Today, Tomorrow and You to be delivered first with Volume 3.

The Lord is good. He cares for each detail in our lives. He knows how we feel, how to lift us up while we obey Him and do His will. As I was able to help Julie, the Lord also told me that you can never fail with God as your partner. Praise be to His name forever! - Noemi Cummings, Southern Area
